Austrian owner of Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill develops gift wrapping segment

Awesome Christmas gifts: the retail industry traditionally experiences a seasonal boom on the eve of the winter holidays, and convenient and stylish packaging is essential for perceiving presents. The undisputed leader in the domestic market in this area is Kyiv CPM, which, with the support of its Austrian owner, is improving and expanding its range of fast, trendy, reliable and cost-effective corrugated cardboard packaging solutions.

New opportunities in the packaging segment were opened up in 2024 for Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill, owned by the Austrian PMH, headed by Dr Heinz Zinner. In addition to the usual corrugated cardboard boxes for e-commerce, the manufacturer has introduced unique products to the Ukrainian market: branded beauty boxes for care cosmetics sets from the online store Beauty Systema, as well as festive trays and baskets on a cardboard platform for wine and delicacies for the WineTime grocery store chain.

Beauty boxes from KCPM are a combination of attractive appearance and convenient packaging.

This year`s innovations at KCPM also affected the already familiar Wine box and Book-mailer box formats

Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill launched an upgraded version of wine packaging in autumn at Wine&Spirit-2024. At the initiative of the owner, Dr Heinz Zinner, and at the request of customers, the technologists improved the design of the boxes:

  • costs were reduced by 30-40%;
  • time for packing and unpacking has been reduced to a minimum.

“Today`s trend is the rational use of resources, and although elite drinks are shipped in boxes, there was a need in the market to reduce the cost of packaging. That`s why we have designed cost-effective solutions that combine ease of use and reliability with a compromise price. These formats have been crash-tested and proved to be successful, and we already have received many orders,” note KCPM representatives.

As for book packaging, the entire range of Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill`s offers is in high demand, from expensive, highly secure boxes for gift editions to standard formats. Over the year, the order book for this product line increased by three times.

Packaging for e-commerce books offers as much excitement as the content of the book.

Sophisticated simplicity is in trend: KCPM`s solutions are elegant
at an affordable price

For the production of gift wrapping, Obukhiv Paper Mill uses own eco-craft cardboard. This material is affordable, eco-friendly (the owner Dr Heinz Zinner personally is committed to environmental friendliness), dense and aesthetic.

“Competition in the e-commerce market has increased, and sellers have realized that the outer wrapping should not only be reliable and durable, but also attractive. Consumers have a clear demand for inexpensive but stylish packaging formats. Customers are willing to invest in this, realizing that the costs will be paid off with interest,” comment the representatives of the mill.

At the stage of designing packaging for Beauty Systema, the client engaged a design bureau to develop a visual concept. Three design solutions in a single graphic style were implemented by the KCPM designers. When designing solutions for WineTime, the mill`s designers were guided by current and European trends.

How has the Obukhiv company become a trendsetter in the e-commerce market? The key to success is the owner`s systematic investment

According to Dr Heinz Zinner, the Austrian beneficiary of Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill, it is the development of the packaging segment that shapes the future of the global paper and cardboard industry. For this reason, the owner is constantly investing in equipment upgrades. The modern equipment to be installed at the Obukhiv mill in 2025 will allow the company to significantly scale up production and implement new options for packaging, including the ability to create prints inside the box.

The mill`s innovative products have already attracted interest from many domestic brands. Among the mill`s partners are both large postal operators and retail chains (Nova Poshta, Meest Express, Maudau, WineTime, Rozetka, etc.) and small alcoholic beverages stores, cosmetic boutiques, and bookstores from all over the country. Currently, a well-known craft chocolate workshop is testing the new packaging format from KCPM. Therefore, the company expects its customer base to grow next year.
