Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill: Austrian owner stands for clean business and fair competition

Being a leader is about acting in the market in a respectful manner towards competitors and intellectual property – this is the principled position of Dr Heinz Zinner, the owner of Kyiv CPM.

Promoting the European philosophy of business integrity, Obukhiv mill successfully resists counterfeiting and forgery and defends its brand rights in accordance with the laws of Ukraine.

Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill, owned by the Austrian Pulp Mill Holding headed by Dr Heinz Zinner, is the absolute industry leader in the production of sanitary products from waste paper.

Obukhiv 65 is undoubtedly a national brand by KCPM

As a full-cycle production company, KCPM offers its customers high-quality, affordable and well-known Obukhiv 65 toilet paper. This product is in constant demand, but due to the brand`s popularity, the market is flooded with its “copies” of dubious quality.

Do unfair competitors “clone” the products of Obukhiv mill?

Manufacturers, both well-known and no-name, are massively counterfeiting popular products using the colour scheme, fonts and other elements that are part of the brand identity of Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill. Such visual similarities can mislead customers and pose a real threat to their health. Indeed, counterfeit production technologies do not meet the declared standards and hygiene requirements, and the paper may contain harmful impurities (formaldehyde and heavy metals). Unfortunately, in the pursuit of profits, some retailers have accepted low-quality toilet paper of dubious origin, thus contributing to unfair competition.

To protect the brand and consumers from counterfeiting, the mill filed a complaint with the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine

The AMCU brought to justice companies that violated competition law and imposed significant fines for unfair practices. In particular, LLC “Fabryka DI KARTA” (“Papir-Mal” cardboard and paper factory) was sanctioned in the amount of over UAH 10.7 million for the unlawful use of the design of the “Malyn 65 m” packaging, which is similar to the design of the products of PJSC “Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill”.

Counterfeits only look like the original

For KCPM and its owner, product quality and environmental friendliness are a top priority

At the initiative of the Austrian beneficiary Dr Heinz Zinner, the company systematically audits its production processes not only on a mandatory basis but also on a voluntary basis. In the recycling process, recyclable materials undergo a multi-level purification process that includes coarse and fine filtration and bactericidal treatment. This ensures that the end product that comes into contact with the human body is one hundred per cent clean and safe for both users and the environment.

How to distinguish the original from counterfeits? KCPM shared useful life hacks for consumers

Representatives of the mill recommend that customers carefully check the label:

  • wording and paint have to be clear and even;
  • text has no spelling or grammatical errors;
  • fonts have to look neat and are not blurred;
  • correct name and address of the manufacturer – Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill – as well as the date of manufacture of the product are indicated;
  • the product name is Obukhiv 65 (Обухів 65) without changes or alterations.

Special attention should be paid to the label

Austrian owner Dr Heinz Zinner emphasises that KCPM`s strong business reputation in the market is based on the principles of social responsibility, fair competition, transparency in business and high product quality standards.
