Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill: Austrian owner Heinz Zinner provides proper conditions for staff despite the war challenges

Ukrainian business is currently facing difficult conditions due to the war. Many companies are struggling to survive. In such a situation, some owners are not ready to reduce their profits, so they are cutting costs, primarily to provide comfortable conditions for their employees. Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill, which has attracted Austrian investment, has a different approach: in addition to the standard social package guaranteed by the state, the employer provides additional benefits and facilities for its staff.

Collective agreement – an agreement between employees and the owner of KСPM

Despite the fact that the legislation allows the suspension of collective agreements in wartime, the shareholders of Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill and its beneficial owner from Austria, Dr Heinz Zinner, decided to prolong the agreement. With the assistance of the trade union of KCPM, the terms of the Labour Agreement were even expanded in 2024 to include a wider range of social benefits, including one-off financial incentive for young specialists.

It was difficult to adapt production to military realities, especially in the first months of the war, but the owner of KCPM, Dr Heinz Zinner, is confident that this should not affect the safety and convenience of people, so employees are transferred from Obukhivskyi district and Kyiv and back by corporate shuttle bus free of charge and in the necessary number of vehicles. This significantly saves time, money and employees` health.

Medical guarantees for employees and their families

The enterprise with European investments operates an integrated management system based on international standards, which guarantees not only the quality of the products manufactured by the mill, but also the proper conditions for the employees. However, the safety of employees` lives and their health has always been a priority for the mill`s management, the Board of Directors and the beneficiary Dr Heinz Zinner.

The mill`s outpatient clinic provides medical guarantees

Mill`s outpatient clinic operates for the convenience of employees and provide free medical insurance to all employees and pensioners. Every year, a tender for insurance services is held to select the best conditions for the mill`s employees in a fair way.

Despite the dangerous situation, children of KCPM`s trade union members have the opportunity to spend their summer holidays in the best recreational facilities in the Carpathians.

Employee welfare is the responsibility of the owner

The Austrian shareholder constantly monitors the economic situation in the country. Significant price increases for basic-needs and utilities each time make it necessary for the management and responsible business owner Heinz Zinner to strengthen the social protection of employees, so since the beginning of the full-scale hostile invasion of Ukraine, the mill has already increased salaries four times.

Dr Heinz Zinner`s business strategy of strengthening social protection of employees, particularly in wartime, has its advantages: most of the team members at Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill have a long service record at the company, and prefer to work for a responsible employer.
