The domestic leader in the pulp and paper industry, Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill, located in Obukhiv, currently provides the largest market share of sanitary products and cardboard packaging for the Ukrainian market.
RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to the company`s press service.
The company has not shut down operations since the start of the full-scale invasion. In addition, the mill`s ultimate beneficial owner, Heinz Zinner, CEO of Austrian Pulp Mill Holding, is confident that it is necessary to invest in optimization and safety programmes even during the war.
Production safety is part of the integrated management system of KCPM
The standardized approach to production and business processes applied at Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill guarantees the quality and safety of the products manufactured at the mill and ensures proper conditions for employees. Heinz Zinner, the owner of KCPM, strongly supports the European approach to increasing the level of responsibility in the industrial sector, so the Obukhiv company undergoes regular audits by independent auditing companies to ensure that it meets the requirements of international standards.
The economic and human resource stability of any factory is based on industrial safety, which requires regular improvement and significant financial resources. Due to the high risks of attracting external investment, unfortunately, the company has limited opportunities today. Kyiv CPM has not been able to take advantage of bank loan programmes so far, that is why the company has invested its own funds in equipment upgrades. The owner, Heinz Zinner, notes that this important issue cannot be delayed.
The owner is implementing a large-scale project to modernize key facilities
Timely upgrading of equipment is a necessary step for the development of any business, as it helps to solve a number of issues:
- modern equipment expands the ability to meet the demands of the modern market and provides a competitive advantage;
- speeding up production processes helps to save time;
- ensuring energy efficiency;
- guarantee of enhanced labour safety for personnel;
- minimizing maintenance and repair costs, etc.

Therefore, Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill started to modernize the drying section of paper machine No. 2. This is one of the largest projects at KCPM in recent years, both in terms of investment and complexity, and will include the following stages:
- purchase of equipment from Toscotec, the largest supplier of Steel Yankee dryers in Europe;
- delivery of the giant shaft and components from Italy to the mill;
- installation works to replace Yankee cylinder and the high-speed dryer hood, which is
an integral part of the mechanism.
Investment in the mill`s energy efficiency
The total cost of the project is about EUR 7 million, but the management of Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill, owner Heinz Zinner and members of the Supervisory Board of KCPM are confident that this investment is reasonable.

Yankee cylinder is one of the largest machinery parts at the mill
The giant shaft will be made of steel (currently it is made of cast iron). The new material and innovative design will reduce heat and energy consumption, which is extremely important in the Ukrainian reality, both for the enterprise and for the needs of the overall Ukrainian energy system.
All stages of work are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. This is not the only improvement that will be implemented at Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill in the near future, as the company`s top management and the owner Heinz Zinner are focused on long-term success.
