The berry season is in full swing: there is a traditional boom in sales of farm products in June and July, and efficient logistics and convenient packaging enable quick and safe delivery “from farm to table”. The new boxes produced by KCPM protect the content from damage during transportation and help fill supermarket shelves with fresh organic berries in Ukraine and abroad.
Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill is a full-cycle enterprise with Austrian investments (shareholder – Pulp Mill Holding) that produces environmentally friendly packaging for fresh berries from certified kraft paperboard produced in-house. Among the Group’s clients in this segment are Yahidky APC (TM BigBlue), Betek LLC and other agricultural companies from Ukraine and Moldova.

Since berry growers supply their products to different regions and abroad, high reliability of packaging is of great importance. One of the key features of the design of fruit and vegetable containers from Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill is stiffeners that protect them from deformation and ensure stacking stability during long-distance transportation.

The material also plays an essential role: the trays are made of thick, moisture resistant, environmentally friendly cardboard with cellulose, and can withstand long transport and temperature changes during storage. Thus, sensitive farm products get from gardens and plantations to retail shelves undamaged and with minimal losses.
“The container is multipurpose and suitable for all types of fruit and berry: from strawberries, cherries and blueberries to apples, pears, tomatoes and cucumbers. The highest demand for this type of packaging lasts from May to late autumn, but the demand for cardboard boxes for transportation remains stable in winter and early spring, as late varieties of apples can be stored in refrigerators for months,” noted Andrii Golovchenko, Deputy Director of the Corrugated Products Sales Department.
“The packaging sizes produced by Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill perfectly meet the needs of the market – usually these are baskets adapted for palletisation, designed to hold up to 3-4 kg of berries, which is very convenient for the end consumer. The most popular size is 385x283x82 cm.”
In addition, thanks to the mill’s advanced printing equipment, these boxes, like other complex die-cut products, can be branded and customised for a specific brand when ordering a batch of 5,500 units or more. The use of four bright colours of paint and varnish enables to design a unique basket and to make it more aesthetic and pleasant to the touch, creating a wow effect even for fastidious customers from Europe and the UAE.

Another significant ‘plus’ is that the berry packaging from KСPM is certified in accordance with the requirements of Ukrainian and international standards and has a full package of permissions and accompanying documentation, which is vital for exporting companies.
The mill`s officials are sure that the market for eco-friendly packaging for fruits and berries has a great potential in the context of the current trend towards a healthy lifestyle and consumption of organic products. It is also proved by the personal experience of PMH CEO and beneficiary Dr Heinz Zinner, who spends his free time on his favourite hobby – own apple orchard.
“I get great pleasure from growing high-quality, healthy fruit. I am pleased that we can offer this product to people,” noted Dr Zinner.
